August 31, 2009 Magic Magic!
Magic Magic, a rock band from Boston, was picked by the Boston Phoenix as the “best new band in Massachussetts”, and rightfully so. They’re receiving a lot of hype, but it’s not undeserved. I think you’ll agree with that after you listen to their song “Sleepy Lion”.
This song has been stuck in my head for a while, now. The chorus is so catchy, and their use of pleasing harmonies and vocal hooks wriggle into your head and bounce around there for days. As they sing the line “Don’t you close your eyyyyyyyyessssssssssss” I just want to pump my fist in the air and say HELL YEAH. Hell fuckin’ yeah, khidd!
At once unique-sounding and familiar as your grandfather’s aftershave, this band’s pop-sensible songs are going to blow up soon. We’re beating pitchfork to the punch and calling that in the next few months, you’ll be hearing Magic Magic all over the interwebzz. They also have two drummers, which seems to be taking the banjo’s (or glockenspiel’s) place as the hallmark of new indie rock. Gt’s, brah.
Anyways, here’s the link. I hope you enjoy it! To go with Mikel’s idea of songs reminding you of places/times in the past, this song really reminds me of the beginning of this summer. So happy! So triumphant!
Fuckin’… yyyeah khidd! Let’s go on a fuckin’ packie run to Kappy’s liquahz, khidd! Then let’s get fuckin’ trashed in Allston and listen to this indie band, brah! Let’s go! Yeah Boston!
